April 2024 Further Weapons Intensive

Longsword and Smallsword

** ONLY A FEW PLACES LEFT AVAILABLE **

For Intermediate and Advanced students

The first Further Weapons intensive of the year, on this course students will follow two paths: that of the Medieval Knight, wielding Longsword, and the 18th Century Courtier duelling with the French Smallsword.

With each weapon system students will practice fighting both at range and in close quarter distance, using the weapons to bind and control their opponent as well as dealing deadly blows with aggression and finesse. Explore what makes these weapons so different whilst also discovering what strengths they share in common. And if in doubt, stick ‘em with the pointy end!

This course will cover the use of both weapons for both their martial historical accuracy and their use in fantasy genres.

DATES:
Monday 8th to Wednesday 17th April 2024
9am - 5pm. No classes on weekends; Thursday classes finish at 16:00.

VENUE:
The Thanet Youth & Community Centre, Malden Road, Herbert St, London NW5 4HD.

WHO IT’S FOR:
Anyone looking to gain their Intermediate or Advanced Fighter status, either with a current Standard (Level 1) BADC qualification or looking to add to their current additional qualifications or improve level 2 and 3 results. Those with at least a Standard Level qualification from another Stage Combat training organisation (BASSC, APC) can be considered for the BADC Further Weapons training if their qualification is still valid.

WEAPONS COVERED:
This course will cover Longsword and 18th Century French Smallsword
This is an intensive course in which students will spend up to 50 hours learning to safely perform fight choreography in each of the fight disciplines stated above. This course will build upon the foundations gained on the Standard Level qualification, with students engaging with the dramatic and historic elements of each weapon system whilst presenting a technique that is hidden to the audience, to create a fully committed, truthful performance. Both of the weapon systems will incorporate a script.

As the requirements to obtain Intermediate or Advanced Fighter status have now changed within the BADC (two distinctions needed after Standard level for Intermediate and a further two distinctions to become Advanced), this course offers those students looking to improve upon past qualifications the best chance to hone their skills, improve technique and combine it with the dramatic intent needed to operate at the top level.

Students will have the opportunity at the end of the course to certify with the British Academy of Dramatic Combat.
The test fee is included in the course price.
